St. Patrick's Parades Due Around the Archdiocese
While the world-famous New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade will kick off on Fifth Avenue at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 17, with sports commentator Tommy Smyth as grand marshal, more than a dozen other cities and communities around the archdiocese are planning parades as well.
They are:
♦ Dutchess County, in Wappingers Falls. Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m., beginning at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Grand marshal, posthumously, is Tim Doyle, a founder of the parade.
♦ Yonkers. Sunday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m., beginning at Radford Street and South Broadway. Michael Morley, a Yonkers supermarket and restaurant owner, is grand marshal. Mass at St. Mary's Church, Yonkers, at noon.
♦ White Plains. Saturday, March 8 at noon, beginning at Mamaroneck Avenue and Main Street. Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 9 a.m.
♦ Staten Island. Sunday, March 9, at 11:30 a.m., beginning at Hart Boulevard and Forest Avenue. Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:30 a.m.
♦ Kingston. Sunday, March 9 at 1 p.m., beginning at Kingston Plaza. Grand marshal is John Dwyer, who is active in promoting Irish culture.
♦ Pearl River. Sunday, March 9 at 1:30 p.m., beginning at Wyeth Parking Lot. Grand marshal is retired New York Police Officer Michael Halpin; his son, U.S. Marines Capt. Kevin Halpin, is parade commander. Mass at Dominican College Chapel, Sparkill, at 9 a.m.
♦ Putnam-Northern Westchester, in Mahopac. Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m., beginning at the Mahopac Fire House, Route 6. Grand marshal is lawyer Patrick J. Brophy.
♦ Mount Kisco. Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m., beginning at Main Street and Moore Avenue. Mount Kisco Mayor J. Michael Cindrich is grand marshal; Ann McGrath of Katonah is Hibernian of the Year. Parade Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mount Kisco, at 11 a.m.
♦ Peekskill. Saturday, March 15 at 3 p.m. beginning at Assumption Church, 131 Union Ave. at Division Street. Grand marshal is former Peekskill Mayor Vincent Vesce. Mass at Assumption at 1:30 p.m.
♦ Throgs Neck, the Bronx. Sunday, March 16 at noon at East Tremont and Lafayette avenues. Grand marshals are Edmund Donovan, a community volunteer and Salesian High School teacher, and Patrice O'Shaughnessy, a Daily News columnist. Msgr. Leslie Ivers, pastor of St. Frances de Chantal parish, is honored clergy. Mass at St. Benedict's Church, the Bronx, at 9 a.m.
♦ Sleepy Hollow-Tarrytown. Sunday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m., beginning at Main and Washington streets in Tarrytown. Grand marshal is contractor Tom Kennedy.
♦ Mid-Hudson, in Goshen. Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m., beginning at the County Building in Goshen. Chester funeral director Thomas F. Flynn is grand marshal. Mass at St. Columba Church, Chester, at 8:30 a.m.
♦ Eastchester. Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. beginning at Immaculate Conception Church, 53 Winterhill Road, Tuckahoe. Grand marshal is Eastchester businesswoman Margaret McGorty Colavita.
