40 Days for Life, a non-denominational initiative centered on prayer and fasting, peaceful vigils at abortion facilities, and educational outreach will take place at locations in the archdiocese from Wednesday, Sept. 24, to Sunday, Nov. 2.

The 40-day prayer vigil is planned outside local abortion facilities in Spring Valley, Goshen, Newburgh, White Plains and Poughkeepsie, Participants are asked to sign a statement of peace, pledging to conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner at all times. The campaign in the archdiocese mirrors those that have taken place in more than 500 communities across America in the past 10 years.

Kathy Taylor, a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middletown who is coordinating the Goshen campaign, said she and other participants “pray that these efforts will help mark the beginning of the end of abortion in Goshen.”

“We know 40 Days for Life has made a difference here. Our volunteers have made extraordinary sacrifices to expose the abortion industry and to protect children and their mothers from abortion,” she said in a statement.
