‘Advent Reconciliation Monday’ Set for Dec. 19

Archbishop Dolan has designated Monday, Dec. 19, as Advent Reconciliation Monday in the archdiocese, and has asked that all parishes provide the sacrament of reconciliation from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. that day.

It is the second archdiocese-wide reconciliation day this year; the other one, a joint undertaking with the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre, was held during Lent.

The Advent day of confessions was instituted by the archbishop at the suggestion of the archdiocesan Priests’ Council. “We pray that these reconciliation Mondays will help people appreciate the great gift God has given us in this sacrament,” wrote Auxiliary Bishop Dominick J. Lagonegro, episcopal vicar for Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster and Northern Westchester/Putnam, who is coordinating the effort.
