Manhattan College Students

Are James Patterson Scholars

Best-selling author James Patterson, a 1969 graduate of Manhattan College, has awarded $110,000 in scholarships to students at his alma mater for the third straight year. Ten juniors and ten seniors from the Schools of Arts, Business, Education and Health, Engineering and Science are recipients of the James Patterson Scholarships.

Students are awarded the $5,000 scholarships based on merit, need and involvement in activities related to the college’s mission.

“This scholarship program at my alma mater recognizes hard-working students who combine academic excellence with the Lasallian values that the College embodies,” Patterson said. “With this recognition, my hope is that these students will continue to excel at Manhattan College and after they graduate.”

The scholarships are going to juniors Adele Foster, Celena Gonzalez, Kaitlin Hargaden, Paige Hughes, Kaitlin Lang, Nicole Moore, Kelly Paulemon, Marissa Piazza, Valerie Scarinci and Nimra Shabbir; and seniors Francisco Alvarez, Emily Bellas, Alexandra Cerrati, Joseph Cusmano, Claire Leaden, Sean McIntyre, Tina Nitis, Juanita Pacheco, Aldiana Perazic and Donika Zherka.

College of New Rochelle Earns

START-UP NY Designation

The College of New Rochelle is the first private college in the Mid-Hudson Region to be designated as a START-UP NY location.

START-UP NY provides major incentives for businesses to relocate, start up, or significantly expand in New York state through affiliations with public and private universities, colleges and community colleges.

Through the program, The College of New Rochelle will seek to establish a partnership with high tech businesses in fields such as biotechnology, information technology, re-manufacturing, engineering or electronic products. The college has designated more than 20,000 square feet in Maura Hall on its main campus in New Rochelle for use by the selected businesses.

“This opportunity is particularly important to us because it personifies The College of New Rochelle’s commitment to embracing an entrepreneurial spirit,” said President Judith Huntington.

She added, “Through our participation in this program, our students will benefit from internships and experiential learning opportunities. This partnership will also create new employment opportunities and attract new investment locally, spurring additional economic growth in New Rochelle and across the Westchester area.”
