Iona College Begins Construction of “Real Time” Trading Floor

Thanks to the generosity of two alumni of Iona College, construction is under way for the Hagan School of Business’ new state-of-the-art “real-time” trading floor. It will be the centerpiece of a new Center of Financial Market Studies.

The cost of constructing the 860-square-foot trading floor has been contributed by Robert LaPenta, class of 1967, and Patrick Lynch, class of 1959. The trading floor will be a component in new concentrations and certificates being planned for the Hagan School of Business graduate programs, and use of the facility will be incorporated into many of the undergraduate courses.

The new facility will be built on the main floor of the Hagan School and will enable students to learn first-hand about the same technology and analytic tools used on Wall Street. The trading floor will contain a fully-equipped simulated trading environment featuring 20 high-end networked trading desks, live business news data feeds, real-time market quotes and computerized trading models.

Manhattan College President Appointed to NCAA Committee

Dr. Brennan O’Donnell, president of Manhattan College, has been selected to represent the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance. His four-year term began Sept. 1.

The Committee on Academic Performance was created by NCAA in 2004 to administer the Division I academic performance program. One of the committee’s main duties is to determine the academic progress rate and graduation success rate for every student-athlete at each of the NCAA’s more than 300 Division I member institutions.

O’Donnell is on the board of trustees at La Salle University and the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, and has served as a board member for the Lilly Fellows Program and for Collegium, a consortium of Catholic universities that strives to strengthen faculty understanding of and participation in the mission of Catholic higher education.
