Cardinal's Statement on Attending Mass on All Saints Day

On Nov. 1, the Church observes All Saints Day. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Cardinal Timothy Dolan has dispensed the obligation to attend Mass, advising people to do so only if safety is not at risk.

"Yes we've got so much to pray for," the cardinal observed, "as we mourn our dead, pray for their families, and for those injured, and without homes. We also pray in thanksgiving for the heroic service of so many entrusted with our protection. Praise God that, once again, this community has united in selfless service to those in need."
