Catholic Schools Week Activities and Open Houses

The following are additional school activities and open house listings for National Catholic Schools Week, which runs from Sunday, Jan. 27, through Saturday, Feb. 2. The main listing was published in the Jan. 10 issue.

St. Margaret’s School in Pearl River begins the week with a school-wide Mass hosted by the kindergarten class. The week’s activities include a spelling bee, and a crazy auction and athletic competition. There will also be a “Dance Through History” assembly for students that includes the Twist, Waltz and Mashed Potato. The week concludes with a prayer partners meeting to collaborate on community projects, and the celebration of First Friday Mass, followed by a breakfast with parishioners. The school will participate in the “Feeding Our Neighbors” program for St. Aedan’s Food Pantry in Pearl River.

St. Patrick’s in Bedford will host an international lunch day with each class representing a different country. There will be a laser light show, a spelling bee and an eighth grade versus faculty volleyball game. An assembly will demonstrate the science behind how carousels are built. There will be Generation Life presentations for parents and for seventh- and eighth-graders. A dress down day will raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. First Friday Mass will be celebrated.

The Nora Cronin Presentation Academy in Newburgh
will hold a book fair at Barnes and Noble, Union Ave., and Rt. 17K, Newburgh, on Saturday, Jan. 26, 11 a.m.-5p.m. The parents’ association will have a Spanish food sale on Sunday, Jan. 27, in the dining room at St. Patrick’s Church, 55 Grand St., Newburgh, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale begins the week with student speakers at Masses, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27. There will be a Mass at 10 a.m. on Jan. 27, for students and their families. The week includes a book fair, a mismatch day, a make your ice cream sundae day and a pajama day. Because of the effects of Hurricane Sandy, students will get another chance to wear their costumes at Halloween Take 2. Students can bring a book and a snack for a friend on shared reading day.

St. Barnabas Elementary School in the Bronx will celebrate with a sports day, a silly hat day, and wacky sock day. Younger grades will participate in a pajama day. There will be a memory contest for students, parents and teachers on Jan. 31. First Friday Mass will be celebrated, followed by a “make your own ice cream sundae” at lunchtime.
