Eight priests have been named administrators of parishes in the archdiocese and 12 others have been appointed as parochial vicars, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.
The administrators are: Father Thadeus Aravindathu, St. Boniface parish, Wesley Hills, and director of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Community of Rockland there; Father Michael Cedro, Holy Cross, South Centerville; Father Pablo Gonzalez, St. Rita of Cascia, the Bronx; Father James Hauver, St. Roch’s, Staten Island; Father Osiris Salcedo, S.D.B., St. Pius V, the Bronx; Father Luis Saldana, St. Elizabeth’s, Manhattan; Father Robert Verrigni, St. Ursula’s, Mount Vernon; and Father Terzo Vinci, S.A.C., temporary administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, East Harlem, while continuing as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Yonkers.
The parochial vicars are: Father Richard Adams, St. Elizabeth’s, Manhattan; Father Gilberto Angel-Neri, St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx; Father Christopher Argano, St. Columba’s, Hopewell Junction; Father Edmund Burke, St. Mary’s, Washingtonville; Father Philip Caruso, St. Joseph’s, Croton Falls; Father Daniel D’Alliessi, Our Lady of the Assumption, the Bronx; Father Salvatore De Stefano, St. Clare of Assisi, the Bronx; Father John Duffell, Blessed Sacrament, Manhattan; Father Andrew King, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Manhattan; Father Kevin Malick, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Staten Island; Father Anthony Mizzi-Gili, St. Anthony’s, Nanuet; and Father Gerard Rafferty, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale.
Administrators
Father Thadeus Aravindathu, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served since 2010 as director of St. Mary’s Syro-Malabar Catholic Community of Rockland, then based at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg. He had served as a pastor and parochial vicar of parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis, Minn., 1997-2009. He was ordained in his native India for the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly in 1983.
Father Michael Cedro, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served as parochial vicar of St. Joseph’s parish, Croton Falls, since 2010. Before that he was parochial vicar of St. Augustine’s, New City, 2008-2010, and St. Columba’s, Hopewell Junction, 2004-2008. He was ordained in 2004.
Father Pablo Gonzalez, whose appointment became effective July 15, had served as parochial vicar of St. Rita’s, the Bronx, since 2011. A native of Spain, he was ordained for the Archdiocese of Madrid in 2007.
Father James Hauver, whose appointment will take effect Sept. 1, has served as parochial vicar of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Staten Island, since December. Before that he was temporary administrator of St. Augustine’s, Highland, for a year. He also served as parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception, Stony Point, 2009-2010; St. Joseph’s, Staten Island, 2009; and St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 2002-2008. He served on the faculty at Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, 2008-2009. He was ordained for the Diocese of Duluth, Minn., in 1997 and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2010.
Father Osiris Salcedo, S.D.B., whose appointment became effective Aug. 1, had served as parochial vicar of St. John Chrysostom, the Bronx, since 2010. He previously served in the archdiocese at St. Elizabeth’s, 2004-2010, and Incarnation, 2002-2004, both in Washington Heights. A native of the Dominican Republic, he was ordained there in 1997 for the Salesians of Don Bosco.
Father Luis Saldana, whose appointment will take effect Sept. 1, had served as vice rector of Cathedral Seminary Residence of the Immaculate Conception, Douglaston, since last September and assistant director for Hispanic vocations to the priesthood since 2006. He had served as rector of St. John Neumann Seminary College at Dunwoodie, 2008-2011. He also had served as professor of dogma at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie. He was parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth’s, Washington Heights, 1999-2002, when he began graduate studies in Rome. He was ordained in 1999.
Father Robert Verrigni, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served as parochial vicar of Resurrection, Rye, since 2007. He was parochial vicar and master of ceremonies at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 2006-2007, and was also parochial vicar there, 1986-1989. He was pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 2003-2006, and Holy Name of Jesus, Valhalla, 1998-1999. He twice served as parochial vicar of SS. John and Paul, Larchmont, 1999-2003 and 1989-1998. He also served at St. John the Evangelist, Mahopac, 1981-1986, and St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx, 1977-1981. He was ordained in 1977.
Father Terzo Vinci, S.A.C., whose appointment became effective June 28, had served as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Yonkers, where he will continue to serve, since 1986. He was pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, East Harlem, 1975-1986, and earlier served as parochial vicar there. He also served in the Diocese of Albany. A native of Italy, he was ordained in Rome for the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers) in 1958.
Parochial Vicars
Father Richard Adams, whose appointment became effective Aug. 1, had served since last September as spiritual director of Casa Santa Maria at the North American College in Rome. He was pastor of St. Agnes parish, Manhattan, 2002-2011; St. John the Evangelist, Goshen, 1993-2002, where he was also administrator for eight months; and St. Rose of Lima, Manhattan, 1980-1992. He was spiritual director of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, 1975-1979. He served as parochial vicar at St. Lucy’s, the Bronx, 1979-1980; Corpus Christi, Manhattan, 1971-1975, while also assigned to the faculty of Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, Manhattan; and St. Athanasius parish, the Bronx, 1965-1971. He was ordained in 1965.
Father Gilberto Angel-Neri, whose appointment became effective June 1, had served since 2010 as administrator of St. Teresa of Avila/Holy Cross, Sleepy Hollow.
Prior to that he had been parochial vicar of Blessed Sacrament parish in the Bronx since 2007, the year he was ordained.
Father Christopher Argano, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served as parochial vicar of Sacred Heart parish in Monroe since 2009, the year he was ordained.
Father Edmund Burke, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served since 1994 as pastor at St. Mary’s parish, Kingston. He also served as pastor of St. Peter’s parish, Kingston, since 2010, and was administrator there 2002-2010. He was parochial vicar of St. Paul’s parish, Congers, 1992-1994 and St. Joseph’s parish, Croton Falls, 1984-1992. He was a financial administrator, 1978-1984, and faculty member, 1977-1978, at Salesian High School in New Rochelle. He studied for the priesthood at Don Bosco College in Newton, N.J., and the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and was ordained for the Salesians in 1977. He was incardinated into the archdiocese in 1990.
Father Philip Caruso, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served as pastor and before that as administrator of St. Joseph’s parish, New Rochelle, since 1999. He was parochial vicar at Our Lady of Grace, the Bronx, 1988-1999; St. Anthony’s, Nanuet, 1984-1988; and SS. Peter and Paul, Mount Vernon, 1983-1984. He also served on the faculty of Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, 1982-1983; and earlier as parochial vicar of St. John and St. Mary, Chappaqua, and Holy Rosary and Sacred Heart, both in the Bronx, 1978-1979. He was ordained in 1978.
Father Daniel D’Alliessi, whose appointment became effective July 1, had been a graduate student of moral theology at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Previously, he had served as a parochial vicar of St. Paul’s parish, Congers, since his ordination in 2004.
Father Salvatore De Stefano, whose appointment became effective July 1, had served as parochial vicar at SS. John and Paul parish, Larchmont, since 2008, the year he was ordained.
Father John Duffell, whose appointment becomes effective Sept. 1, has been pastor of Ascension parish, Manhattan, since 1994. Prior to that, he was pastor of St. Peter’s parish, Yonkers, since 1981. While there, he also served as administrator at Our Lady of the Rosary, Yonkers, in 1992. He served as parochial vicar at St. Patrick, Yorktown Heights, 1977-1981, and Sacred Heart of Jesus, Manhattan, 1969-1977. He was ordained in 1969.
Father Andrew King, whose appointment became effective July 1, had been professor of dogma and dean of students and admissions at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, since 2006. He was a graduate student in theology at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., 2004-2006. He was on the faculty of Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, 2000-2003. He served as parochial vicar at St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 1997-2000. He studied at Gregorian University in Rome, 1996-1997. He was ordained in 1996.
Father Kevin Malick, whose appointment became effective Aug. 1, had been parochial vicar at Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, since 2008. He served as parochial vicar at St. Augustine’s, New City, 2007-2008. He was ordained in 2007.
Father Anthony Mizzi-Gili, whose appointment was effective July 1, had been parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Assumption in the Bronx, since 2009, the year he was ordained.
Father Gerard Rafferty, whose appointment became effective Aug. 1, had served as professor of Scripture at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, since 1994. Previously, he was administrator of Our Lady of Fatima, Scarsdale, 1992-1993, after having served there as parochial vicar since 1987. Before that he studied at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Harvard Divinity School, beginning in 1983. He was parochial vicar at Resurrection, Rye, 1979-1983. He was ordained in 1979.
