Father Edward J. Fagan, O.A.R., who served for two terms as pastor of St. John’s parish in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, died Dec. 23 at Montefiore Medical Center. He was 72.
He was first named pastor of St. John’s in 1994 and served in that capacity until 2000. He was parochial vicar for three years before being named pastor again in 2003 and serving until earlier this year.
From 1978 until 1994 he was the director of pastoral care at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was also prior of Tagaste Monastery there, 1978-1981, and a member of the provincial council of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, 1987-1993.
Born in Suffern, he entered the Augustinian Recollects in 1955 and made final vows in 1959. He was ordained in 1963.
A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 28 at St. John’s Church. Burial was in Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
