Five priests have been appointed as deans for the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

The deans and their deaneries are: Father Robert Grippo, Deanery of Yonkers; Father Daniel O’Hare, Deanery of Orange County; Msgr. John Paddack, Deanery of West Manhattan; Father Edward Russell, Deanery of North Manhattan, and Msgr. James Sullivan, Deanery of Dutchess County.

The appointments, which became effective Dec. 1, are for a three-year term.

Last September Cardinal Dolan had announced the change in the name of the geographic areas in the archdiocese from vicariates to deaneries, with a corresponding change in the names of the heads of those regions from vicars to deans.

Father Robert Grippo has been administrator of Annunciation parish, Crestwood, since July, a position he will retain. He was pastor of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx, 1991-2014. He also serves as a member of the Archdiocesan Advisory Committee, East Bronx, for Making All Things New, and has served as a clergy trustee of the Northeast/East Bronx regional school board. He served as parochial vicar of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 1980-1991, and St. Frances de Chantal, the Bronx, 1972-1980. He was ordained in 1972.

Father Daniel O’Hare has served as pastor of Holy Name of Mary parish in Montgomery since 2005. He was pastor of Assumption in Maybrook, 1996-2005, and has been administrator there since 2005. He will remain pastor of Holy Name of Mary and administrator of Assumption. He was pastor of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Port Jervis, 1985-1996, and was previously administrator there for a year. He served as parochial vicar at St. Patrick’s, Newburgh; St. Joseph’s, New Paltz, and St. Peter’s, Poughkeepsie. He was ordained in 1965.

Msgr. John Paddack has served as pastor of Notre Dame parish in Manhattan since 2012, a post he will retain. He had served as administrator there for nearly a year. He was ordained in 1984 and named a monsignor in 2006.

Father Edward Russell has served at St. Rose of Lima parish, Manhattan, since 2006, first as administrator, then as pastor from 2008 and, since July, again as administrator. He has also been administrator of Our Lady of Esperanza in Manhattan since 2008. He will remain administrator of both St. Rose of Lima and Our Lady of Esperanza. He also serves as a clergy trustee of the Manhattan regional school board. He was pastor of St. Pius V, the Bronx, 1997-2006, after serving there as administrator for a year.
