Four Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal Make Final Vows

Bishop Dennis Sullivan of Camden, N.J., served as principal celebrant of the Mass for the Profession of Perpetual Vows of four Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal June 6 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Manhattan.

Sister Chiara Rose Fedele, C.F.R., 33, a New Jersey native, has an identical twin sister who is married with three children. Sister Chiara graduated from Villanova University with a nursing degree and worked in Nashville, Tenn., as a nurse for two years. For the past two years she has served in England at St. Clare’s Convent in Leeds, where she will return after her profession. She uses her many talents, including her gift of music—piano, guitar and voice—in school visits, children’s Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, women’s retreats and other evangelization efforts.

Sister Guadalupe Magdalena Gonzalez, C.F.R., 35, a native of Mexico, moved to Chicago at age 14. She trained as a nurse and worked in an intensive care unit in a Chicago hospital for several years before experiencing a call to religious life while attending a Youth 2000 Eucharistic-centered retreat. She served at the congregation’s convent in East Harlem for several years before being reassigned last year to Our Lady of Guadalupe Convent in the Bronx, the formation house for postulants. Both convents serve the Hispanic community, and Sister Guadalupe brings her language skills and compassionate spirit in serving those who are homeless and others who participate in the order’s food program, Lectio Divina group and home visiting apostolate.

Sister Kelly Francis Oslin, C.F.R., 30, a native of Littleton, Mass., studied civil engineering at Villanova University and the University of Massachusetts before entering the community. She was one of the first four sisters to travel to Ireland to begin the congregation’s first convent there three years ago. She spent two years in Drogheda, and then returned to serve at Our Lady Queen of Angels Convent in East Harlem, where she has served in a variety of ministries, including the youth ministry program.

Sister John Paul Marie Spinharney, C.F.R., 38, a native of Eden Prairie, Minn., spent seven years working as a neonatal intensive care nurse before discerning the call to religious life. She attributes Eucharistic Adoration and the intercession of St. John Paul II to helping her respond to her vocation. She received a nursing degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Her brother, Father Isaac Spinharney, C.F.R., serves in Derry, Ireland. Sister John Paul served in the congregation’s mission in England for a time and has been serving as local vicar at Our Lady Queen of Angels Convent in East Harlem for two years. She has been instrumental in leading children’s Adoration and assisting with the Upper Room youth group, and is active in pro-life ministry.
