Honoring Bigotry

Posted

To the Editor:

Did anyone else notice that the chief “bad guy” of “The Boxtrolls” prominently wore a small but glaring white cross as part of his regalia? It was the whitest and brightest object in the stop-motion film, whose tone mostly conveyed gray. It was such a long and predictable film, aside from its technical prowess, I thought it might be forgotten for the kiddie flick it really was. Too bad I’m wrong, as the movie was nominated for an Oscar Award in the animated feature film category.

I hope someone with a decent soapbox calls The Boxtrolls creators on this. There are thousands of Christians across the world, dying for the smallest association with this symbol of our Lord. It was at the least an unkind representation of Christianity, and quite bigoted. It’s so much worse to represent Christians as such in a children’s movie, no matter how childish the production values.
