Host Wins Cardinal Hayes Track and Field Invitational

Cardinal Hayes High School surprised the 10-team field by coasting to victory at the Hayes Track and Field Invitational Jan. 9 at Lombardi Center at Fordham University in the Bronx. Cardinal Hayes scored 65 points to outdistance second-place Fordham Prep, 41 pts., and third-place Mount St. Michael Academy, 19 pts.

Hayes’ Jaelen Vazquez shattered the meet record in the shot put by five feet with a throw of 55’, 11”, and Anton Porter of Mount St. Michael took the 55-meter dash in 6.4 secs. Tyron Ingram of Hayes won the 300-meter dash in 38.7 secs.

Other participating schools were Cardinal Spellman High School, St. Raymond’s Academy and Mott Haven Academy, all of the Bronx; Xavier High School in Manhattan; Salesian High School in New Rochelle; Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains; and St. Francis Prep of Queens.
