‘Important Distinction’

Posted

Regarding Cardinal Dolan’s blog piece “Consistency Please” (Feb. 1). I love and respect my archdiocesan shepherd, Cardinal Dolan. However, comments like these, it seems to me, have the potentially dangerous effect of introducing a sense of moral equivalence between President Donald J. Trump’s and Governor Andrew Cuomo’s policies.

His Eminence fails to make the important distinction between governmental policies on immigration, which the Church acknowledges are subject to the prudential decisions of the applicable government leaders (e.g., they need to be balanced with legitimate issues of national security), and policies dealing with human life, which the Church says should always be opposed to abortion.
