Regina King has been named director of The Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal. Her appointment became effective Feb. 2.

This year’s Appeal campaign, with the theme “Sharing God’s Gifts,” began Jan. 1. The goal is $20 million.

“I always welcome challenges, and I am happy to be a part of fulfilling the Archdiocese of New York’s mission,” Ms. King said.

“I look forward to meeting all the dedicated priests, volunteer teams and parishioners who are the core of the Appeal’s success,” she said. “And, of course, I look forward to reaching goal.”

As director, she succeeds Channon Lucas, who was named a vice chancellor of the archdiocese in November 2013.

Ms. King is not a newcomer to the Appeal. Since July 2012, she had served as the campaign’s director of major gifts. She earlier worked as an associate fund-raiser in the Office of Parish Fund-raising and in the position of campaign coordinator of the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Restoration Campaign beginning in March 2012.

“My time working with pastors to increase parishes’ weekly offertory amounts taught me the financial challenges our pastors face daily to run their parishes. Working to restore and repair St. Patrick’s Cathedral gave me the skills needed to raise funds in a capital campaign and, finally, the Cardinal’s Appeal gave me the experience to increase major gifts,” explained Ms. King.

“I see archdiocesan support used in so many ways keeping the faith alive in our parishes, schools and communities,” she said. “My goal is for more people to understand the various ways the Appeal impacts so many and, in turn, give their support to these vital causes,” she said.

She also worked at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP in Manhattan for four years.

A native of Queens who now lives in Manhattan, she holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fordham University.
