New Pastors Assigned to 19 Parishes

New pastors have been appointed to 19 parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

One current pastor has also been reappointed for an additional year. Also, administrators have been named to serve 10 parishes, and parochial vicars have been assigned to four others. One priest has been approved to begin a sabbatical on July 1.

Appointed as pastors were Msgr. Francis J. McAree, St. Catharine of Alexandria parish, Blauvelt; Msgr. Emmet R. Nevin, St. Paul’s, Congers; Father Joseph Blenkle, St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Fishkill; Father Peter Byrne, St. Elizabeth’s, Manhattan; Father Peter Colapietro, St. Monica’s, Manhattan; Father John DeBellis, Holy Spirit, Cortlandt Manor; Father John Duff, St. Mary of the Assumption, Katonah; Father Jeffrey Galens, St. Patrick’s, Armonk; Father Anthony Giuliano, St. John’s, Pawling, in addition to St. Charles Borromeo, Dover Plains; Father Richard Guarnieri, St. Gregory the Great, Harrison; Father Thomas Kiely, Our Lady of Loretto, Cold Spring; Father Peter Kihm, Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck; Father William Luciano, Blessed Sacrament, New Rochelle; Father Michael Martine, Holy Rosary, Staten Island; Father Arthur Mastrolia, St. Anthony’s, Yonkers; Father Peter McGeory, St. Joseph’s, Bronxville; Father Brian McSweeney, St. Augustine’s, Ossining; Father Robert Robbins, Our Saviour, Manhattan, in addition to serving as administrator of Our Lady of the Scapular/St. Stephen’s and the Chapel of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, also Manhattan; and Father George Rutler, St. Michael’s, Manhattan, and administrator, Holy Innocents, Manhattan.

Also reappointed as pastor for one year was Father Robert Quarato, Holy Rosary parish, the Bronx.

All the appointments will become effective Aug. 1, except for Father Byrne’s, whose will become effective July 1.

Appointed as administrators were Father Robert Ashman, Immaculate Conception parish, Irvington-on-Hudson; Father Edmund Burke, St. Peter’s, Rosendale; Father Herbert DeGaris, St. Patrick’s, Highland Mills; Father Andrew O’Connor, St. Mary’s, Grand St., Manhattan; Father Daniel O’Reilly, Corpus Christi, Manhattan; Father Philip Persico, Holy Name of Jesus, Valhalla; Father Arthur Rojas, St. Joseph’s, Yonkers; Father Robert Staar, Christ the King, Yonkers; Father Timothy Wiggins, Our Lady of Mercy, Port Chester; and Father Matthew Yatkauskas, St. Charles Borromeo, Gardiner.

All the appointments will become effective Aug. 1.

Named as parochial vicars were Father James Ferreira, St. Margaret of Cortona parish, Riverdale, the Bronx; Father George LaGrutta, St. James the Apostle, Carmel; Father Steven Markantonis, St. Peter’s, Monticello; and Father Daniel Tuite, St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie.

All the appointments will become effective July 1.

Pastors

Msgr. Francis McAree has served since 2001 as pastor of St. Gregory the Great parish, Harrison. He was rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, 1997-2001, and was vice rector and academic dean, 1994-1997. He served on the St. Joseph’s faculty, 1986-1993, and also served as acting rector. He was an assistant at St. John Neumann Residence, 1983-1986. He was in residence at Our Lady of the Assumption, the Bronx, 1981-1982, and at Our Lady of Fatima, Scarsdale, 1982-1983. He was ordained in 1975 and named a monsignor in 1995.

Msgr. Emmet Nevin has served since 2002 as pastor of St. Catharine of Alexandria parish, Blauvelt. He was principal of Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, 1992-2002, and served as a teacher there, 1980-1992. He served as parochial vicar of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Bronx, 1977-1980. He was ordained in 1977 and named a monsignor in 1999.

Father Joseph Blenkle has served since 2001 as pastor of Holy Name of Jesus parish, Valhalla, where he previously was administrator for a year and a half. He was parochial vicar of St. Columbanus, Cortlandt Manor, 1996-2000, and St. Peter’s, Rosendale, 1990-1996. He was ordained in 1990.

Father Peter Byrne has served since 1995 as pastor of Immaculate Conception parish, Staten Island, where he previously was administrator for a year along with St. John the Baptist de la Salle, also Staten Island. He also was administrator of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Bronx, 1992-1994. He served as parochial vicar of St. Teresa’s, Sleepy Hollow, 1984-1992. He was ordained in 1984.

Father Peter Colapietro has served since 1995 as pastor of Holy Cross parish, Manhattan, where he previously was administrator for two and a half years. He served as parochial vicar of St. Joseph’s, Yorkville, Manhattan, 1982-1992, and St. Vito’s, Mamaroneck, 1976-1982. He was ordained in 1976.

Father John DeBellis has served since 2006 as parochial vicar of St. James the Apostle parish, Carmel. Before that, he was pastor of St. Ann’s, Yonkers, 2000-2006, where he previously was administrator for almost a year. He also served as parochial vicar at the following parishes: Our Lady Queen of Peace, Staten Island, 1994-1999; Holy Family, the Bronx, 1994; St. Joseph’s, Bronxville, 1991-1994; and Holy Rosary, Staten Island, 1985-1991. He was ordained in 1985.

Father John Duff has served since 1996 as pastor of St. John the Evangelist parish, Pawling. Before that, he was pastor of St. Charles Borromeo, Gardiner, 1991-1996. He served as parochial vicar of St. Paul’s, Congers, 1990-1991; St. Augustine’s, Ossining, 1986-1990; and St. Margaret’s, Pearl River, 1977-1986. He was ordained in 1977.

Father Jeffrey Galens has served since 2001 as pastor of Good Shepherd parish, Rhinebeck. He was on the faculty of Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, 1995-2001. He was parochial vicar of St. Mary’s, Washingtonville, 1990-1995. He was ordained in 1990.

Father Anthony Giuliano has served since last July as pastor of St. Charles Borromeo parish, Dover Plains, where he previously was administrator for nine months. He served as parochial vicar of Christ the King, Yonkers, 2009-2011; St. Christopher’s, Staten Island, 2007-2009; and St. Michael’s, Bronx, 2005-2007. He was pastor of Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, 2000-2005, and St. Francis of Assisi, Mount Vernon/Bronx, 1996-2000, where he previously was administrator for nine months. He served as parochial vicar in the Bronx at Our Lady of Angels, 1994-1995; St. Lucy’s, 1991-1994; and Holy Rosary, 1984-1989; and in Suffern at Sacred Heart, 1989-1991. He was ordained in 1984.

Father Richard Guarnieri has served since 1989 as pastor of St. Clare of Assisi parish, the Bronx. Before that, he was pastor of Assumption, 1986-1989, and administrator of St. Stanislaus Kostka, 1988-1989, both Staten Island. He was on the faculty of Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, 1984-1986. He was parochial vicar of Our Lady of the Assumption, Bronx, 1976-1984; Immaculate Conception, Port Jervis, 1975-1976; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Poughkeepsie, 1971-1975. He was ordained in 1971.

Father Peter Kihm has served since 1999 as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, Poughkeepsie. He also served as administrator of St. John the Baptist parish, Poughkeepsie. He served as parochial vicar at St. Ann’s, Nyack, 1994-1999; St. Ann’s, Ossining, 1992-1994; St. Mary’s Fishkill, 1984-1987, and St. Mary Star of the Sea, City Island, 1981-1984. He served on the faculty of Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 1987-1992. He was ordained in 1981.

Father Richard Kiely has served since 2001 as pastor of Holy Spirit parish, Cortlandt Manor, where he previously was administrator for a year and a half. He served as parochial vicar of St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 1998-2000; St. Theresa’s, Briarcliff Manor, 1995-1998; St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, 1991-1995; and St. Joseph’s, Middletown, 1988-1991. He was ordained in 1988.

Father William Luciano has served since 2007 as pastor of Christ the King parish, Yonkers. He served as pastor of St. Michael’s, the Bronx, 1995-2007, and was administrator there, 1995-1996. He served as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Suffern, 1991-1995; St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 1987-1991; St. James the Apostle, Carmel, 1985-1987; and St. Joseph’s, Kingston, 1983-1985. He was ordained in 1983.

Father Michael Martine has served since 2009 as pastor of St. Joseph’s parish, Staten Island. He has served since last July as a judge of the Metropolitan Tribunal. He was temporary administrator of St. Mary’s, Staten Island, 2010-2012. He was appointed judicial vicar of the Interdiocesan Appellate Tribunal for the Province of New York in 2009. He earlier served the Interdiocesan Appellate Tribunal as associate judge and then as administrator. He served as professor of canon law and procurator at St. Joseph’s Seminary, 2006-2008. He served as parochial vicar at St. Anthony’s, Nanuet, 2002-2004; Sacred Heart, Monroe, 1998-2002; and St. Frances of Rome, the Bronx, 1997-1998. He was ordained in 1997. He holds a licentiate in canon law from The Catholic University of America.

Father Arthur Mastrolia has served since 2001 as pastor of St. Paul’s parish, Congers. He was headmaster of Cathedral Prep, 1997-2001, and served as spiritual director there, 1993-1997. He served as parochial vicar of St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 1988-1993, and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 1987-1988. He was ordained in 1987.

Father Peter W. McGeory has served since January as temporary administrator of St. Kateri Tekakwitha parish, Lagrangeville. He served for 25 years as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy before retiring with the rank of captain in 2010. He served as parochial vicar at St. James the Apostle, Carmel, 2011-2013; St. Benedict’s, the Bronx, 1988-1989; and SS. John and Paul, Larchmont, 1976-1983. He was on the faculty of Archbishop Stepinac High School, 1983-1985. He was ordained in 1976.

Father Brian McSweeney has served since 2001 as pastor of Our Lady of Loretto parish, Cold Spring. He served assistant to the vicar general, 1998-2001. He served on the faculty of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, 1993-1998, and Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 1992-1993. He served as parochial vicar of Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie, 1988-1992. He was ordained in 1988.

Father Robert Robbins has served since last October as pastor of Our Lady of the Scapular-St. Stephen’s parish and administrator of the Chapel of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, both Manhattan. He also will continue to serve as director of the archdiocesan Community Outreach Office, a newly created post he assumed last September. He was pastor of Holy Family in Manhattan, 1989-2011. From 2005 to 1011, he served as director of the Interfaith and Ecumenical Commission. He was a priest in residence at St. Joseph’s in Greenwich Village, 1986-1989, and Our Lady of the Rosary, 1981-1986 during which time he served as executive director of Archdiocesan Office of Development. He served as parochial vicar of Resurrection, Rye, 1974-1981. He was ordained in 1974.

Father George Rutler has served since 2001 as pastor of Our Saviour parish, Manhattan. He served as parochial vicar at St. Agnes, Manhattan, 1988-1991; Our Lady of Victory, Manhattan, 1983-1986; and St. Joseph’s, Bronxville, 1982-1983. He served as national chaplain of the Legatus Apostolate for one year, 1991. He served as Catholic chaplain at Pace University, Manhattan, and was in residence at St. Agnes, Manhattan, 1986-1988. He was ordained in 1981.

Father Robert Quarato has served since 2001 as pastor of Holy Rosary parish, the Bronx. He served as parochial vicar in the Bronx at St. Margaret of Cortona, 1996-2001, and St. Benedict’s, 1992-1996. He was ordained in 1992.

Administrators

Father Robert Ashman has served since 2000 as parochial vicar at St. Anthony’s parish, Yonkers. He also was parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception, 1996-2000; St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx, 1992-1996; and St. Teresa’s, Staten Island, 1986-1992. He was ordained in 1986.

Father Herbert DeGaris has served since 2010 as parochial vicar of St. Joseph’s parish, Bronxville. He also was parochial vicar of St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 2004-2010; St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 2000-2004; St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, 1994-2000; and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Manhattan, 1991-1994. He was ordained in 1991.

Father Edmund Burke has served as parochial vicar of St. Mary’s parish, Washingtonville, since last July. Before that, he was pastor of St. Mary’s and Holy Name of Jesus parishes, Kingston, since 1994. He also was pastor of St. Peter’s, Kingston, 2010-2012, and was administrator there, 2002-2010. He was parochial vicar of St. Paul’s, Congers, 1992-1994, and St. Joseph’s, Croton Falls, 1984-1992. He was financial administrator at Salesian High School, New Rochelle, 1978-1984, and taught there, 1977-1978. He was ordained for the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1977 and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 1990.

Father Andrew O’Connor has served since 2007 as parochial vicar of Holy Family parish, the Bronx. He also served as parochial vicar of Holy Trinity, Manhattan, 2001-2007; St. Augustine’s, New City, 1998-2001; and St. Mary’s, Grand St., 1996-1998. He was ordained in 1996.

Father Daniel O’Reilly has served since 2007 as director of the archdiocese’s University Apostolate and since 2011 as director of campus ministry at Columbia University, posts he will continue to hold. He served as spiritual director of St. John Neumann Residence, 2008-2011. He was parochial vicar of Resurrection parish, Rye, 2003-2007. He was ordained in 2003.

Father Philip Persico has served since 2005 as parochial vicar of Holy Name of Jesus parish, Valhalla. He was administrator of Sacred Heart, Newburgh, 2004-2005. He also served as parochial vicar of St. Denis, Hopewell Junction, 2001-2004, and Holy Child, Staten Island, 1999-2001. He was ordained in 1999.

Father Arthur Rojas has served since 2009 as parochial vicar of St. Joseph’s parish, Yonkers. He previously served as parochial vicar of St. Peter’s, Monticello, 2008-2009; Sacred Heart, the Bronx, 2007-2008; and St. Peter’s, Yonkers, 2006-2007. He was ordained in 2006.

Father Robert Staar has served since 2007 as pastor of Our Lady of Mercy parish, Port Chester. He was pastor of Immaculate Conception, Stony Point, 1995-2007. He served as parochial vicar of the following parishes: St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 1986-1995; Holy Family, New Rochelle, 1981-1985; St. Anthony’s, Richardson Ave., the Bronx, 1978-1981; and Sacred Heart, Staten Island, 1977-1978. He was ordained in 1977.

Father Timothy Wiggins has served since 2003 as parochial vicar of St. John the Evangelist parish, White Plains. He also was parochial vicar of St. Peter’s, Monticello, 2002-2003. He was ordained in 2002.

Parochial Vicars

Father James Ferreira has served since 2010 as parochial vicar of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus parish, Staten Island. He was ordained in 2010.

Father George LaGrutta has served since 2010 as parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception parish, Port Jervis. He was ordained in 2010.

Father Steven Markantonis has served since 2010 as parochial vicar of St. Philip Neri parish, the Bronx. He was ordained in 2010.

Father Fredy Patiño Montoya has served since 2010 as parochial vicar of St. Peter’s, Haverstraw. He was ordained in 2010.

Father Daniel Tuite has served since 2010 as parochial vicar of St. Patrick’s parish, Yorktown Heights. He was ordained in 2010.

Father Matthew Yatkauskas has served since 2011 as parochial vicar of St. Francis de Sales parish, Manhattan. He also served as parochial vicar at the following parishes: St. Joseph’s, Yorkville, Manhattan, 2002-2011; Holy Name of Mary, Croton-on-Hudson, 1996-2002; St. Joseph’s, Croton Falls, 1992-1996; and St. Francis of Assisi, Mount Kisco, 1989-1992. He was ordained in 1989.

Sabbatical

Father Thomas Kallamudy, who has served since 2007 as pastor of Holy Innocents parish, Manhattan, has been approved to begin a six-month sabbatical July 1.
