Parades March to Honor St. Patrick

Throughout March, communities in the archdiocese will salute St. Patrick and the faith, culture and heritage of Ireland. Several traditional St. Patrick’s Day parades will step off.

         The annual Dutchess County parade will be held Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m.  It will begin at North and Main Sts. in Wappingers Falls, ending at Mesier Park. Irish food, music and entertainment will be available at local establishments along the route.

         Glen Kelly, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, is this year’s grand marshal.

Mount Kisco kicks off its parade on Saturday, March 8 starting at 2 p.m. More than 60 organizations will march along Main Street, including step dancers, bagpipe bands and a special appearance by the New York Guard Military Band.

         Father Steven Clark, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi parish, will serve as grand marshal. The day’s events start with an 11:30 Mass at the church, 2 Green St., Mount Kisco.

         The annual Northern Westchester-Putnam parade on Sunday, March 9, will begin at 2 p.m. It is the third-largest parade in the state and this year is dedicated to the American flag. A recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance will take place at 12:45 p.m. on the corner of Rte. 6 and Croton Falls Rd. Buses will run from the K-Mart Shopping Plaza starting at 11:30 a.m.

         John J. Callahan of the Emerald Association of Putnam County will be the parade’s grand marshal.

The Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick’s Day Parade will march on Sunday, March 16, stepping off at 1:30 p.m. at Main St. in Tarrytown and proceeding north on Rte. 9 to Sleepy Hollow. This year is will be dedicated to the United Irish Counties.

         The grand marshal is Paul Clarke. Mass will precede the parade at 10 a.m. at Transfiguration Church, 268 South Broadway, Tarrytown.
