Pastor, Temporary Administrators Named

A new pastor has been appointed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Middletown, and temporary administrators have been named at St. John’s parish, Kingsbridge, the Bronx, and Transfiguration parish, Tarrytown, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

Father John F. Horan, O. Carm., has been named pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Father Michael P. Kerrigan, C.S.P., has been appointed temporary administrator of St. John’s, Kingsbridge, and Father Michael T. Driscoll has been named temporary administrator of Transfiguration, Tarrytown.

The appointments of Father Horan and Father Driscoll became effective Nov. 1, and Father Kerrigan’s took effect Nov. 30.

Father Horan had served as pastor of Transfiguration parish, Tarrytown, since August 2012. He was administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, 2010-2012. He was director of the Carmelite Institute in Washington, D.C., 2008-2010, and vocation director and director of lay Carmelites, 2003-2006. He was a faculty member and administrator of a high school in the Diocese of Palm Beach, Fla., 1991-1997. He was parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, and St. Paul’s, Bullville, 1988-1991, and Our Lady of the Scapular, Manhattan, 1984-1988. He studied for the priesthood at Washington Theological Union and was ordained for the Carmelite Fathers in 1984.

Father Driscoll had served as vicar for religious in the Diocese of Palm Beach, Fla., this year. Before that, he had been pastor of a parish in Boca Raton, from 1994 to 2011, and served there for two years as a parochial vicar. He was prior provincial of the Carmelites, 2000-2003. He was pastor of Transfiguration parish, Tarrytown, 1985-1992. He was a professor at St. Vincent DePaul Seminary in Boynton Beach, Fla., 1977-1984, and prior of St. Joseph’s Priory, a Carmelite House of Studies in Washington, D.C., 1973-1977. He taught at St. Albert’s Junior Seminary in Middletown, 1968-1973. He studied for the priesthood at Whitefriars Hall Theologate and was ordained for the Carmelite Fathers in 1967.

Father Kerrigan had served as parochial vicar of Sacred Heart parish, Monroe, since May. He served as parochial vicar of St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 2010-2013. From 2005 to 2010, he was an editor at Paulist Press. He also had assignments as a pastor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 1996-2004, and as a Catholic campus minister at Clemson University in South Carolina, 1993-1996. He served as parochial vicar of Good Shepherd parish, Inwood, 1987-1993. He studied for the priesthood at The Catholic University of America and was ordained for the Paulist Fathers in 1987.
