Praying at Camp

Some 600 seventh- through-12th-grade students from the archdiocese, New Jersey, Connecticut and beyond attend Mass at Camp Veritas, a one-week sleep away pilgrimage experience sponsored by the nonprofit of the same name that is incorporated in the State of New York and organized exclusively for the purpose of inspiring and forming young Catholic teens into disciples of Jesus Christ. Another 400 family, friends and community members also attended the July 25 Mass, which Cardinal Dolan celebrated in the Kaplan Recreation Center of Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh. The camp at Mount St. Mary’s, held July 19-25, is one of a number of sites where Camp Veritas is offered for participating youngsters. Throughout their time at the summer camp, the children participate in activities such as soccer, volleyball, swimming and spiritual activities, including daily Mass. The recipe is play-and-pray with a full immersion in the Catholic faith through sacraments and activities.
