‘Seasoned Pastors of the Archdiocese’

Posted

Cardinal Dolan released the following statement after the announcement of the archdiocese’s three new auxiliary bishops was made June 14.

It was with much joy that I received word from the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States that our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has named three new auxiliary bishops to the Archdiocese of New York: Monsignor John Jenik, Father John O’Hara, and Father Peter Byrne.

All three bishops-elect are seasoned pastors of the archdiocese, with years of acclaimed ministry in all areas of the archdiocese.

Monsignor Jenik and Father Byrne have lived and served most of their priesthood in Hispanic parishes. They will be especially attentive, I know, to the needs of this ever- growing community.

Along with Bishop Gerald Walsh and Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, our new auxiliary bishops will assist me in caring for the pastoral, educational, and charitable needs of our vast archdiocese. They will, as well, work very closely with our vicars in visiting our parishes and priests and in representing me at various archdiocesan events. We are blessed as well to have the continued presence of our retired Cardinal Edward Egan, and our retired auxiliaries, Bishop Robert Brucato and Bishop Josu Iriondo.

Congratulations to our new auxiliary bishops, and I know that you join me in praying that they be true, faithful, and dedicated successors to the apostles.

We look forward to their consecration on August 4, the feast of Saint John Vianney.
