New York Senator Charles Schumer announced Aug. 17 that his office would conduct a statewide lottery for one ticket to Pope Francis’ address to a joint session of Congress Sept. 24.

Senator Schumer’s office said he had received one guest ticket to the event, which he was making available. The senator also said he would offer 100 pairs of tickets to the papal audience on the West Lawn of the Capitol following the pope’s address.

Pope Francis will be the first pontiff ever to address a joint meeting of Congress.

The senator’s office will distribute tickets during a random drawing Aug. 27. Deadline to submit requests is Aug. 26, with requests accepted only through the senator’s website.
