Father Patrick J. Sullivan, S.J., who served in the film and communications industry and taught at Fordham University, died Oct. 6 at Murray Weigel Hall, the Jesuit infirmary in the Bronx. He was 87.| He was director of the Division for Film and Broadcasting of the U.S. Catholic Conference beginning in 1971. Previously he was asistant director and then director of the National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures.| In 1968 Pope Paul VI appointed him a consultor to the Pontifical Commission on Social Communications. The commission elected him to the committee that drafted the 1971 Pastoral Instruction on Social Communications.| In 1982 he began teaching ethics at Fordham's College of Business Administration. In 1983 he became associate dean in the Graduate School of Business at Lincoln Center. He was administrator of the Fordham University Campus in Tarrytown from 1985 until his retirement in 2001.| Born in Manhattan, he entered the Jesuits in Wernersville, Pa., in 1937 and professed vows in 1939. He studied at Woodstock College in Maryland and at Weston College in Weston, Mass., where he was ordained in 1950. He held a doctorate in sacred theology from Gregorian University in Rome and a doctorate in philosophy from Fordham.| He is survived by a sister, Eileen R. Mudryk.| A Funeral Mass was to be offered at Fordham University Church Oct. 10, with burial at the Jesuit Cemetery in Auriesville.
