Two Regional Deans Appointed

Msgr. Joseph Giandurco, pastor of St. Patrick’s parish in Yorktown Heights, has been appointed dean of the Northern Westchester/Putnam deanery, and Father Brendan Fitzgerald, pastor of St. Barnabas parish in the Bronx, has been appointed dean of the Northeast Bronx deanery, the Cardinal’s Office has announced. Both appointments were effective Dec. 1. 

Father Joselin Berkmans, M.M.I., has been named administrator of St. Anthony of Padua-St. Thomas Aquinas parish in Yulan, effective Nov. 1. 

Msgr. Joseph Giandurco has been appointed dean of Northern Westchester/Putnam deanery. He was appointed pastor of St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights in July. He served as pastor of Sacred Heart, Suffern, 2006-2016, where he was administrator for two months in 2006. He served as dean of students at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, 2003-2006. He was on the faculty at St. Joseph’s, beginning as dean of admissions, 1994-2006, and procurator, 2001-2006. He served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Shrub Oak, as administrator for three months in 2002, and parochial vicar, 1992-1993 and 1987-1988. He was parochial vicar at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 1990-1991. While parochial vicar at Notre Dame, Manhattan, 1988-1989, he served as assistant chaplain at Columbia University. He studied in Rome to complete his doctorate in canon law, 1993-1994, and attended the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, 1989-1990. He was ordained in 1987 and named a monsignor in 2006. 

Father Brendan Fitzgerald has been appointed dean of the Northeast Bronx deanery. He was named pastor of St. Barnabas parish, the Bronx in July. He served as administrator of Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, 2012-2016. He had served as priest secretary to Cardinal Egan, 2010-2012, and parochial vicar of Our Lady of the Scapular-St. Stephen’s, Manhattan, 2010-2012. He served at St. Margaret of Cortona, the Bronx, 2009-2010, and St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 2006-2009. He was ordained in 2000 for the Diocese of Limerick in his native Ireland and served there for six years. He was incardinated in 2012. 

Father Joselin Berkmans, M.M.I., has been named administrator of St. Anthony of Padua-St. Thomas Aquinas in Yulan. He had served as parochial vicar at Our Lady Queen of Peace on Staten Island since 2014. He was ordained for the Missionaries of Mary Immaculate in 2010 in Tamil Nadu in his native India.
