Welcoming Our Lady of Guadalupe

A newly constructed statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe has traveled to parishes in the archdiocese in anticipation of her feast on Friday, Dec. 12. These photos were taken at Sacred Heart parish in Monroe, which hosted the statue and an image of St. Juan Diego on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Dec. 8.

The statue, made in Italy, earlier visited St. Patrick’s in Newburgh, St. Mary’s in Poughkeepsie and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Bronx. The images traveled to St. Peter’s in Yonkers for St. Juan Diego’s feast day, Dec. 9, and were to visit Immaculate Conception, Staten Island, Dec. 10.

A Mass was planned at St. Brigid-St. Emeric in Manhattan Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., before a cross-town procession to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine at St. Bernard’s. Cardinal Dolan is to offer Mass for youths in St. Patrick’s Cathedral Dec. 12 at 10 a.m., after a procession along Fifth Avenue from Central Park, where a prayer service begins at 7 a.m. A bishop from Mexico will celebrate a 7 p.m. family Mass in the cathedral.
