‘Wisdom in Restraint’

Posted

To the Editor:

As a Christian, I do not believe Mohammed was a prophet sent by God. Nevertheless, I do not believe he should be mocked in the “Charlie Hebdo” magazine or other publications for these reasons. First, there are millions of Muslims who have chosen not to become radicalized and move toward becoming terrorists.

But I believe that when thousands of them continue to see their prophet arrogantly mocked in print, they will conclude they must defend him, like defending someone from a schoolyard bully. For this reason alone, all publications and editors should refrain from such mockery. This turns out to be a national security issue...for nations around the world.

Showing such wisdom in restraint in no way diminishes freedom of speech in America and Europe. This freedom is so deeply entrenched and lasting. This would save many lives, probably thousands of lives around the world, so they can continue to live to enjoy our many freedoms.

I’m deeply frustrated many Muslims will think magazines like “Charlie Hebdo” represent Christians when our Lord would never want us to arrogantly mock Muslims, but to show love and kindness to them as He does.
