Administrators, Parochial Vicar Named

Three temporary administrators and a parochial vicar have been appointed to parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

Named as temporary administrators were Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, Our Saviour and St. Stephen-Our Lady of the Scapular and the Chapel of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Manhattan, effective Sept. 3; Father Joseph Kinda, St. Joseph of the Holy Family, Harlem, effective Sept. 1; and Father Nelson Couto, Holy Name of Mary, Croton-on-Hudson, effective Aug. 22.

Appointed parochial vicar was Father Ricardo Garcia, St. Frances de Chantal, the Bronx, effective Sept. 1.

Msgr. Kevin Sullivan will continue to serve as executive director of archdiocesan Catholic Charities, a position he has held since 2001. He also served in Catholic Charities as chief operating officer, 1995-2001; director of the department of social development, 1987-1995; director of the office of special projects, 1985-1987; and staff associate of the department of family and children’s services, 1983-1985. He was parochial vicar of St. Elizabeth, Manhattan, 1976-1983. Ordained in 1976, he was named a monsignor in 1999.

Father Nelson Couto had served as parochial vicar of Holy Name of Mary since 2010. He has also served at St. Philip Neri, the Bronx, 2008-2010; Sacred Heart, Staten Island, 2005-2008; and St. Bernard, White Plains, 2005-2008. Ordained in his native India in 1979, he was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2010.

Father Joseph Kinda had been parochial vicar of St. Joseph of the Holy Family since last year. He was ordained in Archdiocese of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Africa, in 1999.

Father Ricardo Garcia had served as parochial vicar of St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception-St. Mary, Staten Island, 2018-2019, and Our Lady of the Angels, the Bronx, 2015-2018. He was ordained in 2015.
