Brother Alphonse Kopp, C.F.X.

Brother Alphonse Kopp, C.F.X., who taught at several schools in the archdiocese, died Aug. 1 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham, Mass. He was 86.

He taught at Cardinal Hayes High School, first at the annex in Manhattan, 1944-1946, and then at the main school in the Bronx for four years. He taught at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, 1957-1961, and served his community as superior there, 1962-1965. He also taught at Mount Loretto on Staten Island, 1961-1962.

He also taught and served as principal in Utica and in New Jersey, Massachusetts and South Carolina.

Born in Syracuse, he entered the Congregation of the Xaverian Brothers in 1940 and professed final vows in 1943. He held a bachelor's degree in business administration from St. John's University and master's degrees from New York University and Worcester State College in Massachusetts.

He is survived by a brother, Richard.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 5 at St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass., with burial in the brothers' cemetery.
