Brother Andrew Winka, F.S.C., a chemistry professor at Manhattan College in the Bronx, died Sept. 30 at Montefiore Hospital. He was 64.

He had taught at Manhattan since 2005, and previously from 1980 to 1981 and 1985 to 1988. He also taught at universities and secondary schools in various cities in the United States and at Bethlehem University in the Palestinian Territories and De La Salle University in Manila, the Philippines.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., he entered the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1962 and made final vows in 1975. He held a bachelor's degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.; master's degrees from SUNY Buffalo and Mahattan College; and a doctorate from Rutgers University.

Surviving are his mother, Frances Winka, and two sisters, Susan Hundertmark and Mary Anne Gears.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 4 at Christian Brothers Center in the Bronx, with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
