Brother Charles B. Quinn, C.F.C., a teacher and administrator at Iona College for many years and a past grand marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade, died Feb. 19 at the Christian Brothers' residence, Lindisfarne, at Iona. He was 93. Serving at the college since 1957, he was executive vice president, 1973-1980; dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, 1966-1972; and a professor of English. After his tenure as vice president he continued to teach English literature, writing and Irish. He also was moderator of the Iona College Pipe Band. A fluent speaker of Irish, he fostered efforts to encourage its use. He was grand marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Manhattan in 1982. Born in Somerville, Mass., he moved to Ennistymon, County Clare, Ireland, with his family as a child and attended Christian Brothers schools there. He entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers in Dublin in 1929 and professed final vows in 1938. He taught at the congregation's schools in Dublin and in New Ross, County Wexford, before coming to the United States in 1949. He served at All Hallows High School in the Bronx until his assignment to Iona. He held a bachelor's degree in Irish from the National University of Ireland in Dublin and a master's degree and a doctorate from Fordham University, both in English. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 22 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Burial was in the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park.
