Brother Edward Ignatius Duggan, C.F.C.

Brother Edward Ignatius Duggan, C.F.C., a longtime professor at Iona College, died Oct. 7 at St. Joseph's Residence Care Center in New Rochelle. He was 82. Brother Edward taught mathematics and then computer science at Iona in New Rochelle from 1960 to 2007. He had also taught at Iona from 1952 to 1956. He also taught at Iona Preparatory School, New Rochelle, 1948-1952, and in Manhattan at Power Memorial Academy, 1956-1958 and 1945-1946; Rice High School, 1946-1948; and St. Cecilia's School, 1944-1945. Born in the Bronx, he entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1940 and professed final vows in 1950. He was the first vocation to the Christian Brothers from Rice High School in Manhattan. He held a bachelor's degree from Fordham University in the Bronx, and master's degrees in mathematics, mathematics education, physics and computer science from Fordham University, Columbia University, St. John's University and New York Polytechnic, respectively. He is survived by three sisters, Eleanor Neel, Joan Burns and Sister Anne Duggan, O.S.U. A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 11 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle, with burial at the Christian Brothers' Cemetery in West Park.
