Brother Gerald W. Hudson, O.F.M.

Brother Gerald W. Hudson, O.F.M., who assisted at Holy Name of Jesus parish in Manhattan, died March 2 at St. Anthony of Padua Friary in Camden, N.J. He was 67.

He served at Holy Name of Jesus from 1995 until 2002. During that time, he taught ESL students at an Episcopal church in Manhattan.

He also served at parishes in North Carolina and South Carolina, and worked in the province’s mission in Kingston, Jamaica.

Born in Southwick, Idaho, he entered the Church in 1982. He entered Franciscans’ Holy Name Province in 1985 and professed final vows in 1990.

He held a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Lewis and Clark State College and a master’s in education, with a concentration in history, from the University of Idaho.

He is survived by his son, Juan Rodriguez, whom he adopted prior to entering religious life; his sisters Carol Taggart and Phyllis Hadaller; and brothers Douglas and Boyd.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 8 at St. Anthony of Padua.
