Brother Gilbert Scott, S.J., who served the Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau for more than a quarter of a century, died Jan. 6 at Murray-Weigel Hall, the Jesuit infirmary at Fordham University in the Bronx. He was 89.
He was assistant director of the Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau (JSMB) in Manhattan, 1955-1964, and served as director of vocations, 1963-1964. He was director of the negotiations office at JSMB, 1964-1982.
He was assistant to the provincial at Kohlmann Hall at Fordham, 1982-1984, and then subminister, 1984-1995.
He was assistant to the provincial at St. Ignatius Residence, Manhattan, 1995-2005, and later served as hospitality minister at the province’s infirmary at Loyola Hall at Fordham.
In 2002, Brother Scott celebrated his golden jubilee with the Jesuits.
Born in Orange, N.J., he attended Seton Hall Prep High School and Seton Hall University. In 1952, he entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) at St. Andrew on Hudson in Poughkeepsie and professed final vows in 1963.
A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 9 in the chapel at Murray-Weigel Hall. Burial was at the Jesuit Cemetery in Auriesville.
