Brother John Baptist Hildreth, S.A., who served as a vocations director and a culinary staffer with the Franciscans Friars of the Atonement in Garrison, died July 2 at Cabrini of Westchester Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. He was 80.

His last assignment was at Paul Wattson Friary in Toronto, 2003-2010. He was an assistant at Our Lady of the Rosary parish, Yonkers, 1997-2003. He served as vocations director and worked in the retreat department at Graymoor, 1988-1997.

After serving briefly as pilgrimage coordinator at Graymoor, he joined the staff of Catholic Central Library in London, 1983-1988. He also served in the culinary department of St. Paul Friary at Graymoor and at a novitiate in Cumberland, R.I., 1960-1978.

Born in New Haven, Conn., he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1957 and made final vows in 1965.

He is survived by two brothers, Donald, his twin, and Eugene.

A Funeral Mass as offered July 12 at St. Anthony of Padua Chapel at St. Paul’s Friary. Burial was in the friars’ cemetery.
