Brother Joseph J. Ziegler, M.M.

Brother Joseph J. Ziegler, M.M., a New Yorker who was a missioner to Bolivia, died Aug. 24 at St. Teresa’s Residence in Ossining. He was 82.

Brother Joseph was assigned to Bolivia in 1962, where he did maintenance work for seven years at Maryknoll parishes in Riberalta and Santa Cruz. After a home leave, he returned to Santa Cruz, 1977-1995.

In 1995, he returned to Ossining. He retired in 2001.

Earlier, he did plant maintenance at Maryknoll facilities in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Minnesota and California.

Born in the Bronx, he entered Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in 1952 and professed final vows in 1957. He was formerly known as Brother Norbert.

Before entering religious life, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific.

He is survived by a brother, Andrew, and a sister, Sister Anna Marie Ziegler, S.C.C., of St. Ann’s Convent in Williamsport, Pa.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 28 at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Ossining, with burial at Maryknoll Cemetery.
