Brother Matthew Snowden, F.M.S., a teacher who had a second career as a nurse, died April 22 at the United Hebrew Geriatric Center in New Rochelle. He was 78. He taught and was prefect at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, 1960-1965, and also taught in Manhasset and in Wheeling, W.Va. He practiced nursing at St. Clare's Hospital in Manhattan, 1975-1987, and was a nurse educator in Manhattan, 1987-1997. He was a volunteer at the New York Foundling Hospital. Born in the Bronx, he entered the Marist Brothers in 1947 and professed final vows in 1953. A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 25 at St. Frances of Rome Church in the Bronx, with burial the next day at the Marist Brothers cemetery in Esopus.
