Brother Michael Dougherty, F.S.C., who taught in the archdiocese in the 1950s, died Oct. 1 in De La Salle Hall in Lincroft, N.J. He was 82.

He served in Manhattan at La Salle Institute and Manhattan Prep, where he also was athletic director, and at St. Joseph's Novitiate Institute in Barrytown. He was a former president of the Catholic High School Freshman Basketball League.

A native of Newburgh, he entered the Christian Brothers in 1942 and professed final vows in 1950. He held a bachelor's degree from The Catholic University of America and master's degrees from Manhattan College in the Bronx and Union College in Schenectady.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 6 at De La Salle Hall, with burial in the Christian Brothers section of St. Gabriel's Cemetery in Marlboro, N.J.
