Brother Stephen Hanley, S.A., who served many years as a bookkeeper at the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement’s headquarters at Graymoor in Garrison, died April 11 in the Holy Name Community home in Ringwood, N.J. He was 85.

He worked for 40 years as assistant treasurer and then associate treasurer. He retired in 1998 to volunteer in Graymoor’s development department. In 2006 he received the Brotherhood Award for Witness from the Religious Brothers Conference for his 60 years of internal service to the community and Graymoor.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 22 at Graymoor. Burial was in the Friars Cemetery.
