Brother William Jogues Murphy, C.F.C., who was a teacher at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, died Aug. 19 at St. Joseph's Care Residence in New Rochelle. He was 70. Brother William was a science teacher at Iona Prep from 1976 to 1979, and he led the brothers' community there. He also taught in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Florida, and in Canada. Born in the Bronx, he entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1956 and made his final vows in 1963. He held a bachelor's degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, and a master's from Simmons College in Boston, Mass. He is survived by his sister, Rita Moore, and a brother, James Curtin. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 23 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle, with burial at the Christian Brothers Cemetery, West Park.
