Catherine Baker, who was founder/director and a member of Birthright of Rockland County’s board of directors, died March 25 at home in New City. She was 86.
A meeting with Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now St. Teresa, in 1975 inspired her service with Birthright. She also was New York state regional consultant for Birthright of Rockland County.
Born in the Bronx, she attended St. Barnabas High School and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
Her children, Richard Baker, Theresa Ferretti, Mary Kelly, Peggy Baker and Stephen Baker, and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive her. Her husband of 61 years, Richard, and daughter, Kathleen, predeceased her.
A Funeral Mass was offered March 29 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet.
