Catholic Schools Week Activities Around the Archdiocese, Jan. 28-Feb. 3

St. Gregory Barbarigo School, Garnerville, begins its celebration of Catholic Schools Week with a student-led parish Mass Sunday, Jan. 28, at 9 a.m. The Feeding Our Neighbors food drive begins Monday, Jan. 29, with a Literacy Day for students. On Wednesday, Jan. 31, students can prove their skills in a Minute to Win It game. On Thursday, Feb. 1, students will wear their class colors as they watch the eighth-grade volleyball game. Friday, Feb. 2, is a day for teacher appreciation. The week will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 3, with a fashion show at 7 p.m. at Patriot Hills.

St. Margaret of Antioch School, Pearl River, will hold a Math Mania Morning Monday, Jan. 29, followed by Bingo in the afternoon. Students will show their school pride Tuesday by wearing Blue and Gold and support their classes at an athletic competition in the afternoon. On Wednesday, a student spelling bee will be held, followed by a luncheon to show appreciation for teachers and staff. On Friday, Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. During the week, St. Margaret’s will participate in the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign, as well as Hoops and Jump Rope for Heart during gym classes.

St. Anthony School, Nanuet, will kick off Catholic Schools Week with Mass followed by breakfast. On Monday, students will enjoy a volleyball game between the faculty and the eighth-graders. On Tuesday, a social awareness program will focus on veterans. On Wednesday, students will take on the world as each grade will represent and present information about a particular country. Student scientists will show their stuff on Thursday, with science fair exhibits. The week will finish with school-wide Bingo with their class buddies.

St. Paul’s School, Valley Cottage, will celebrate a Catholic Schools Week Mass on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. followed by a choir performance and breakfast reception. On Monday, students will rally for Spirit Day. Tuesday features a look toward the future for career day. A science assembly will take place Wednesday, and a dance-off and math/game night is set for Thursday. On Friday, a school Mass will be offered.

Sacred Heart School, Suffern, will hold Scholastic Book Fair Monday. School spirit will be boosted Tuesday as faculty members play students in volleyball. Students can invite a loved one for breakfast Wednesday. A movie day will take place Thursday, courtesy of the Home School Association. A school Mass will be offered Friday.

Orange County

Sacred Heart School, Monroe, will hold its annual religion bee on Tuesday. The next day is Sunday, er, Sundae at Sacred Heart, complete with all the toppings. The halls will be filled with crazy hats and socks Thursday, with a movie in the afternoon. A school Mass will be offered in the parish church Friday. The Snow Ball Dance on Saturday is open to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students in the USO Region.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, will begin with a pasta dinner at the parish center Saturday, Jan. 27, 3-7 p.m. The school’s book fair will be held Jan. 29-Feb 2. The week will feature a movie afternoon, Blue and Gold spirit day, a spelling bee, an ice cream social, board games and a book character day. It will end Friday with Mass and a family breakfast in the gymnasium. The school will participate in the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign.

Most Precious Blood, Walden, will begin Catholic Schools Week with the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign on Monday. Students will bring in food donations to help those in need. Wednesday is the school’s D.A.R.E graduation ceremony. On Thursday, everyone will make their own sundaes. On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Literacy Night will feature “The Three Little Pigs” with kindergarten and pre-K students. There will be related activities and games for families and guests. On Friday, the school community will celebrate First Friday Mass.

St. Stephen/St. Edward, Warwick, will begin Catholic Schools Week Sunday, Sept. 28, with an opening Mass at 9 a.m. Students will give back by expressing their appreciation for their bus drivers. The students can participate in a Twin (or Triplet) Day and our K-fourth grade students will enjoy religion Bingo. On Tuesday, students will show school spirit by dressing in school colors or sports uniforms. A student talent show will take place that day. The next day, International Day will feature a pancake breakfast for seniors, ice cream sundaes and an international potluck dinner at 6 p.m. On Thursday, crazy hats, socks and ties will be the day’s dress code. Fifth- to eighth-graders will play Religion Jeopardy. The week will end with a celebration of faculty, staff and volunteers.

St. John’s School, Goshen, will kick off Catholic Schools Week with a pancake breakfast Sunday, Jan. 28. A book fair will run from Sunday through Friday. The school will participate in the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign. The week wraps up Friday with First Friday Mass and a breakfast at 10 a.m. with the students’ grandparents.

Sacred Heart, New Windsor, will hold a religion spelling bee and prayer services. Students will participate in the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign as well as the mission work of Sister Anna. The week wraps up with a First Friday Mass.

Staten Island

Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Benedicta School will host a vocations day with visits from Jesuit priests, the Schoenstatt Sisters and the Sisters and Brothers of the Society of St. Paul. Students will visit Mount Carmel Nursing Home and participate in activities with residents as part of our day of service.

Sacred Heart School will hold its third annual danceathon fund-raiser for cystic fibrosis research, Friday.

St. Joseph-St. Thomas School students will collect canned goods for a local food pantry. The school goal is to donate more than 2,000 cans for the third year in a row. During the week, students will build structures with the cans as part of our "can-struction" STEM activity.

The Bronx

Our Lady of the Assumption-St. Mary, Star of the Sea School will hold an art show on Monday, a science fair on Tuesday, a spelling bee on Thursday and a Ring Day Mass and ceremony on Friday; and Parent Appreciation Day and Luncheon in the church hall after the noon Mass on Sunday, Feb. 4.

St. Helena School will hold an anti-bullying assembly; 
the N.E.D. Show (Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best); 
Buddy Day (upper grades pair with lower grades); 
school carnival; 
school Olympics; and Mass.

Nativity of Our Blessed Lady School will kick off Catholic Schools Week festivities with a Mass on Monday. Tuesday is Buddy Day, in which classes pair up to work on a fun activity. During Jersey Day on Wednesday, the students can dress in their favorite sports team’s colors or jersey and enjoy a “tailgate party” lunch with chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks. Weather permitting, the students will head outside for bean bag, Frisbee and football tosses. Thursday is Superhero Day, and the kids can wear their favorite superhero T-shirt.

St. Francis of Assisi School will hold a prayer service on Monday. Classroom science fair presentations are set for Tuesday. Wednesday will be Ring Day for the eighth-graders. On Thursday, there will be a Talent Show for grades 2 to 8 at Corry Academy. Friday will be Spirit Day.

Corry Academy and UPK: Mass for kindergarten and grade 1 will be offered at St. Frances of Rome on Monday. On Wednesday, PreK3 and All UPK will wear their crazy hats. A talent show for grades 2-8 at Corry Academy takes place Thursday. Friday is Spirit Day.

St. Lucy School will begin the week with Mass on Monday. Career Day will be held Wednesday. The next day will feature an international lunch. Friday’s activities include Game Day and dressing in school colors.

St. Theresa School will start Catholic Schools Week with Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28. Monday is sports jersey day. Parents and grandparents are invited to visit students’ classrooms on Tuesday. Wednesday is Student Appreciation Day, and crazy hats and socks are also encouraged. Thursday is Pastor Appreciation Day, and it’s also a time for Random Acts of Kindness. A school Mass will be celebrated Friday, which is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day.

St. Benedict School will have confirmation candidates present a Saints Alive display in the school auditorium Tuesday. Fashion alert: Wednesday is crazy sock, tie and hat day. The school science fair will be held Thursday. A school Mass will be offered Friday, which is also Student Appreciation Day.

SS. Philip and James School will present Service to Our Community Day Monday with the commencement of a canned goods drive, and students will make cards for nursing home residents. Tuesday is Parent/Family Appreciation Day, with breakfast and classroom visits. Student Appreciation Day follows Wednesday, with a catered lunch by faculty and staff and no homework that night. On Thursday, teachers and staff get their appreciation day. Service to Our Parish Family Day Friday includes Mass.

St. Frances de Chantal School will begin each day of Catholic Schools Week with a morning prayer led by the students. The prayer will focus on members of the school community: students, teachers, parents and grandparents as well as custodial and support staff. Activities planned are Reading Buddies, which pairs older and young students; Mad Science Show—“Fire and Ice”—students will participate in interactive scientific experiences and also craft and Bingo events.

St. Clare of Assisi School will hold a dance marathon Tuesday; school-wide Bingo will be played Wednesday; and an anti-bullying assembly will be presented Thursday. Different grades will make science project presentations throughout the week. Appreciation days will be held for staff members, teachers, assistants and aides, administrators, the Home School Association and parents/guardians. A First Friday Mass will be celebrated.

Our Lady of Grace School
 will begin with Teacher Appreciation Day Monday. A student contest winner becomes principal for a day Wednesday. School Spirit Day is Thursday. Our Lady of Grace family event at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, takes place Friday. Students play on the professional court and then watch the Brooklyn Nets/ Los Angeles Lakers game.

St. Francis Xavier School will have older students reading to younger ones on Lounge with a Good Book Pajama Day Friday.

Dutchess County

Holy Trinity School, Poughkeepsie

Candlemas Mass led by Student Council to celebrate the Presentation of the Lord, followed by a game of Catholic Jeopardy, Friday.

St. Mary School, Wappingers Falls

Special Relatives Day: performances in the auditorium with visits to the classroom, Wednesday.

St. Peter School, Poughkeepsie

Religious Reading Buddies: upper grades paired with lower grades to teach about the saints, Tuesday.

Family Day and Mass with Open House, Sunday, Feb. 4, beginning at 10 a.m. Mass is at noon and event ends at 2 p.m. Eighth-grade students receive their graduation T-shirts at Mass; parent workshops for Early Childhood parents.

St. Eugene School, Yonkers

School Religion Bee, Thursday.

St. Joseph School, Bronxville

Science Fair/Rube Goldberg event, Thursday at 7 p.m.

SS. John and Paul School, Larchmont

Grade 8 Pin Day, Thursday, 
Mass with eighth-grade students receiving their school pin. A community service project for eighth-grade students and their parents will be followed by a luncheon. The day concludes with a basketball game with eighth grade students playing against staff and parents.

Immaculate Conception School, Tuckahoe

Partners in Service Day, Friday. All classes participate in a service activity, i.e., making rosaries, packing food donations and writing cards to kids in the hospital.
