Changes Announced to Church Worship Sites

Posted

As a follow-up to Making All Things New, the archdiocesan pastoral planning initiative, the following churches have been relegated as no longer sacred sites for worship, effective June 30.

Most of the sites were part of the mergers enacted in 2014 and 2015.

The pastors from each affected site requested the changes after consultation with their respective parish leadership.

Cardinal Dolan brought the matter to the Priest Council May 18 and June 19 and received unanimous support for each change.

In the decrees below, profane is defined as no longer a sacred site for worship; the space will cease to be a place for the celebration of Mass or other sacraments. Sordid means the structure will not be used for inappropriate uses.

The change of status allows the pastor, in working with his parish, to determine, upon the final decision of the cardinal, the future use of the building, such as leasing, selling or assumed by another Christian denomination.

The decrees are posted on the archdiocesan website, archny.org. Access Pastoral, then Parish Planning.
