CYO Cheerleading Champions Crowned

The Archdiocese of New York crowned eight CYO cheerleading champions at the College of Staten Island on March 19.

Eleven parishes were represented, with Our Lady of Assumption in the Bronx the only competing parish not from Staten Island. Division winners were crowned, as was an overall winner for each age group based on the non-musical and non-stunting portion of a routine.

Our Lady Queen of Peace captured the overall varsity title for cheerleaders up to and including eighth-graders.

Our Lady Star of the Sea finished first in the Varsity Large Division with 82.5 points, followed by St. Clare’s with 77.75.

In the Varsity Small Division, Our Lady Help of Christians placed first with 78.5, and St. Patrick was second with 71.

Our Lady Help of Christians won the Debs Division, featuring cheerleaders up to and including sixth-graders.

Our Lady Help of Christians won the Debs Small Division by two points over St. Clare’s.

Our Lady Star of the Sea took first place in the Debs Large Division, with Holy Child taking second.

St. Patrick claimed the overall title in the Biddy Division for cheerleaders in fourth grade and under. St. Clare’s was the division winner with 60.5, compared to Our Lady Star of the Sea with 59.

The Biddy Exhibition Division, which was not judged, included Our Lady Queen of Peace, St. Joseph-St. Thomas and Our Lady Help of Christians.
