CYO Crowns Boys, Girls Basketball Champions

Marylee Mitchell scored 15 points as the eighth-graders from St. Teresa Red, Staten Island, defeated St. Augustine Green, New City, 38-27, in one of six Catholic Youth Organization archdiocesan girls’ basketball championship games at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle on March 13. Tanestia Mills had 10 points for St. Augustine.

Seventh-grade girls – St. Francis of Assisi, West Nyack, nipped St. Clare of Staten Island, 25-22. Jenny Palmer had eight points for St. Francis, and Olivia Vero scored a game-high nine points for St. Clare.

Sixth-grade girls – St. Teresa, Staten Island, edged St. Gregory Red, Garnerville, 32-29, receiving 16 points from Saniyah Glenn. Megan Dwyer had 15 points for St. Gregory.

Fifth-grade girls – Zaria Lewis had 13 points as Sacred Heart, Staten Island, beat St. Stephen’s, Warwick, 31-15. Paige Girardi scored six points for St. Stephen’s.

Fourth-grade girls – Sacred Heart, Staten Island, defeated St. Gregory Red, Garnerville, 37-13. Olivia Schmitt led Sacred Heart with 14 points, and Allie Falresto had four points for St. Gregory.

Third-grade girls – Seia Halaifonva scored 13 points as St. Mary’s, Katonah, beat Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Tappan, 17-7. Sophia Lopresti had five points for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.

Sixth-grade boys – Ryan Rocchio scored 26 points as St. Clare, Staten Island, beat St. Augustine Green of New City, 44-35, in one of six CYO archdiocesan boys’ championships games at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx on March 13.

Fifth-grade boys – St. Clare, Staten Island, defeated St. Francis of Assisi Blue, West Nyack, 38-27. Anthony Graziano had 14 points for St. Clare, and Joseph Tortorello led St. Francis of Assisi with 10 points.

Third-grade boys – Sacred Heart, Staten Island, defeated St. Gregory Red of Garnerville, 38-26, receiving 11 points apiece from Jason Dixon and Ian Rautenstrauch. For St. Gregory, Nick Becker had 12 points.

Fourth-grade boys – St. Teresa, Staten Island, defeated St. Francis of Assisi Blue, West Nyack, 39-30.

Eighth-grade boys – Iona Prep, New Rochelle topped St. Mary’s, Washingtonville, 57-38.

Seventh-grade boys – St. Paul Gold, Congers, nipped Our Lady of Good Counsel, Staten Island, 56-52.
