Deacon Charles Rizzo, M.D.

Deacon Charles Rizzo, M.D., who served at Blessed Sacrament parish in New Rochelle for 25 years, died Dec. 21. He was 90.

Deacon Rizzo served at Blessed Sacrament, 1988-2013, after being ordained by Cardinal O’Connor in 1988. He visited residents and led prayer and Eucharistic services in nursing homes. He preached at Sunday Masses, novenas, nocturnal adoration and other services.

Born in New Rochelle, Deacon Rizzo graduated from Fordham University and the Georgetown School of Medicine, Washington, D.C., before doing his residency at New Rochelle Hospital and North Shore Medical Center, Manhasset. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years.

His wife, Marie, and children, Charles Rizzo, Virginia Hauser, Lynne Folts and Adrienne Coleman, survive him. His daughter, Barbara Jules, predeceased him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 27 at Holy Name of Jesus Church. Burial was private.
