Deacon Juan Rodriguez, who served at Holy Cross parish in the Bronx, died April 28 at his home. He was 69. Auxiliary Bishop Gerald T. Walsh, vicar of North Manhattan and pastor of St. Elizabeth's, offered the Funeral Mass on May 2 at Holy Cross. Deacon Rodriguez was coordinator of the parish's Homebound Ministry and spiritual assistant to the Ladies of the Sacred Heart Society, and was a former chairman of the Parish Council. He was also a Secular Franciscan and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and the Cursillo movement. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1988. Born in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He joined Holy Cross parish in 1968 and was assigned to serve there after ordination. A retired airline sales agent, he spent much of his time in recent years ministering in the parish and making frequent trips to Quebradillas to visit with and care for his mother, Carmen Cordero Rodriguez, who survives him. Also surviving are his wife Aurea and three children, Audrey, John and Anthony. Burial was in St. Raymond's Cemetery, the Bronx.
