Deacon Nunzio A. Sorrentino

Deacon Nunzio A. Sorrentino, who served at St. Clare's parish on Staten Island, died Jan. 31 at his Staten Island home. He was 64. A former insurance company executive, he had been serving at St. Clare's since his ordination to the permanent diaconate in 1999. At St. Clare's, he was in charge of baptismal catechesis and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was chairman of Boy Scout Troop 41 on Staten Island. Born in Brooklyn, he had lived on Staten Island since 1969. Surviving are his wife Anne Marie; his son, Michael; two daughters, Gina Marie Kline and Christine Sorrentino; his mother, Emmanuela Sorrentino; a brother, Frank; and a sister, Lucy Conti. Auxiliary Bishop William J. McCormack, retired national director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, offered the Funeral Mass Feb. 3 at St. Clare's Church. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery on Staten Island.
