Deacon Robert diTargiani, who served at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Scarsdale for 27 years, died Aug. 13 after a prolonged illness. He was 81.

Deacon diTargiani served at Immaculate Heart of Mary since 1992. A vital part of the liturgical and spiritual life of the parish, he officiated at wake services and baptisms, visited the homebound and ministered to the sick at White Plains Hospital. On a weekly basis, he officiated committal services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.

He retired as a transportation analyst for Thomas J. Lipton Inc.

Born in Manhattan, he attended Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, and was ordained to the permanent diaconate by Cardinal John O’Connor at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1992.

His wife, Natalie, and sons, Robert and Joseph, survive him.

Retired Auxiliary Bishop Gerald Walsh celebrated the Funeral Mass Aug. 17 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
