Father Arthur T. Leone

Father Arthur T. Leone, who served as a parochial vicar of many parishes and was a faculty member of two Catholic high schools in the archdiocese, died July 12. He was 87.

Most recently, Father Leone served as a senior priest at St. Peter’s parish on Barclay Street in lower Manhattan, 2006-2013, when he retired. He also served as a parochial vicar of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Manhattan, 1990-2006.

Father Leone also served as a parochial vicar of St. Monica’s, Manhattan, 1976-1990; Immaculate Conception, Yonkers, 1973-1976; St. Joseph, New Rochelle, 1963-1964; St. Dominic, the Bronx, 1962; St. Thomas of Canterbury, Cornwall-on-Hudson, 1961-1962; Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Manhattan, 1958-1961; St. Rita’s, Staten Island, 1956-1958; and St. John, Clove, summer 1956.

He served on the faculty of Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, 1964-1973, and Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, 1962-1963.

Cardinal Dolan was to offer the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, in the chapel of the John Cardinal O’Connor Pavilion in the Bronx. Father Richard Adams will be the homilist.

Born in Manhattan, Father Leone graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, and studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie. Cardinal Francis Spellman ordained him in 1956.

Burial was to be in St. Raymond Cemetery, the Bronx.
