Father Bartholomew Minson, O.F.M. Cap.

Father Bartholomew Minson, O.F.M. Cap., who served for 33 years in Japan, died Jan. 18 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 80.

Father Minson served in parishes in Okinawa, Japan, 1970-2003. He was a missioner to Turkey, 2003-2008.

In the archdiocese, he was a parochial vicar at St. John the Baptist parish in Manhattan, 2008. He later was pastor of parishes in Ovid and Interlaken.

He earlier served at a parish in Middletown, Conn., and at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

In 2015, he joined the senior friar community of St. Clare’s in Yonkers.

Born in Richmond Hill, Queens, he entered the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Mary in 1956 and professed final vows in 1960. He studied for the priesthood at Capuchin Theological Seminary in Garrison and was ordained at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers in 1964.

He is survived by two brothers, Arthur and Robert, and a sister, Eileen Roge-Minson.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 22 at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will take place in Okinawa.
