Father Carmelo V. Glavina

Father Carmelo V. Glavina, who was pastor emeritus of Our Lady of Pompeii parish in Dobbs Ferry, died Oct. 2 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 82.

He was pastor from 1999 until his retirement in 2004, and had served as administrator of the parish for eight years before he was named pastor.

Father Glavina served as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Esperanza parish, Manhattan, 1987-1991; St. Ann’s, Ossining, 1960-1963; St. Martin of Tours, 1958-1960, and St. Rita of Cascia, 1968-1971, both the Bronx; and at Annunciation, 1956-1958, and Holy Innocents, 1954-1956, both Manhattan.

Born in Malta, he began studies for the priesthood there and completed them at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie. He was ordained in 1954.

Father Glavina donated his body to science at Albert Einstein Medical College. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
